Essence of a Lady, Inc. recruits women to become philanthropists to advocate, volunteer, and donate time, money, and resources to girls. These women become a part of our Essence Ladies (E'Ladies) Network. The women in E'Ladies Network volunteer as speakers, mentors, and chaperons to help educate, mentor, and empower girls through our YELL!Mentoring program. YELL!Mentoring programs are school- and community-based programs serving school-aged girls 6-19 years old in low socio-economic areas of the country.
Our mission is to provide educational programs and mentoring support to empower girls with tools to graduate from high school and become productive citizens and/or future entrepreneurs.
Our vision is One Girl, One Mentor!
We are currently registered as tax exempt and have YELL!Mentoring programs in Houston, Texas and Jacksonville, Florida. We work collaboratively with professional or business women through local businesses, community organizations, schools, churches, and non-profits. They conduct weekly group mentoring sessions, speak at our monthly seminars in the community or workshops in schools, invite girls to their programs, or chaperon our quarterly culturally-relevant field trips.
We have supported over 1000 girls in the past eight years implementing our research-based curriculum. Through our program initiatives, 85% of our girls have completed our program since 2007,90% have graduated from high school, and 80% of them have attended college. YELL!Girls have an opportunity to qualify for scholarships as graduating seniors, earn the President Obama's Volunteer Service Award as peer mentors, and receive participation awards and academic recognition at our annual Females are FABULOUS! Conference. Women from around the country come together to support our YELL!Girls and each other.
